These pieces, made from about 2002 to 2005, were the first cohesive body of work that explored the notion of function. I was interested in creating ceramic pieces that were more sincere as an object. I felt that function was an excellent vehicle to accomplish this because of its familiar nature. Growing up my family ate dinner together at the dinning room table at least 4 nights a week. This experience unknowingly set the aesthetic for this body of work. These works combined a sense of elegance and formality while at the same time illustrated notions of the handmade. The work created during this time were similar to one another, I was attracted to replicating the essence of fine china but from the potters point of view. With these works there was also a focus on incorporating architectural elements in combination with complex serving pieces.
